2013 04.05 WHY NO PHOTOGRAPHY ALLOWED OF MALL BUILDINGS

LIVING IN ORLANDO AND WHIPPING OUT A CAMERA ON THE STREETS (NO MATTER IF IT IS A POINT AND SHOOT, YOUR CELL PHONE, OR A DSLR) IS TYPICAL WHERE YOU BLEND IN THE MASSIVE TOURIST THAT FLOCK IN EVERYDAY.  I GUESS THAT IS NOT THE CASE WHILE I WAS VACATIONING IN CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA'S SOUTHPARK MALL (PART OF SIMON PROPERTY GROUPI WAS STANDING IN THE PARKING LOT IN FRONT OF THE CONTAINER STORE ENTRANCE, PARTIALLY INTRIGUED BY THE LIGHTING THAT WAS REFLECTED ON THE BUILDING DURING THAT TIME OF DAY AND THE BEAUTIFUL CHERRY BLOSSOM TREES BETWEEN THE PARKING LOT AREA AND THE MALL.   THE MIXTURE OF CONFUSION, THE DISGUSTED LOOK ON MY FACE PROMPTED HIM TO TELL ME THAT I COULD TAKE THE PICTURE IF I, OR SOMEONE I KNEW WAS IN IT.  HIS REASONING WAS THAT IF YOU CAPTURE YOURSELF OR SOMEONE YOU KNEW WITHIN THE PICTURE ALONG WITH THE STRUCTURE OF THE BUILDING, IT BECOMES YOURS. STILL TRYING TO RATIONALIZED THAT IN BETWEEN THE SUN GOING DOWN PROMPTED ME TO JUST NOD SO THAT HE COULD BE ON HIS MERRY WAY. GOT MY SHOT!OR! IF YOU HAD TO FIGURE OUT WHAT   BUILDINGS CAN BE PHOTOGRAPHED AND WHICH YOU CAN NOT! THIS IS SUCH A NEAT CHART, BUT ARE YOU KIDDING ME ?

----------------------------------WHERE MEMBERS OF SECURITY FINDS IT NECESSARY PULL OVER IN THEIR SECURITY CAR TO TELL ME ABOUT THEIR SO CALLED "DO NOT PHOTOGRAPH THE MALL" POLICY.  I HAVE YET TO LOCATE A DOCUMENT THAT CLEARLY SUPPORTS THIS STATEMENT ON THEIR WEBSITE.  EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IT HAS HAPPENED TO ME, THERE WAS A POINT IN TIME OUT OF CURIOSITY I WAS IN FRONT OF THE COMPUTER IN NUMEROUS HOURS RESEARCHING THIS TOPIC AND READING TONS OF BLOGS FROM THOSE THAT HAVE HAD THE UNFORTUNATE EXPERIENCE(S).  ALTHOUGH I ONLY HAD MY CANON G9 POINT AND SHOOT, THE MALL SECURITY SLOWLY DROVE IN FRONT OF ME TO EXPLAIN THAT THERE WAS A POLICY AGAINST PHOTOGRAPHING MALL PROPERTY.I DON'T THINK I WANTED TO BE ENTERTAINED WITH ANOTHER NONSENSE REASON FROM HIM.   WHAT WOULD THE WORLD COME TO IF CAMERAS WERE BANNED IN PUBLIC?THERE ARE NO DEFINED FACES IN THIS SHOT, I DON'T HAVE FULL GEAR OR CREW FOR A COMMERCIAL SHOT.  SO WHATS THE PROBLEM?UNLESS THIS BUILDING HAS COPYRIGHTS.......FROM WIKI"Freedom of panorama, often abbreviated as FOP, is a provision in the copyright laws of various jurisdictions that permits taking photographs or video footage, or creating other images (such as paintings), of buildings and sometimes sculptures and other art which are permanently located in a public place, without infringing any copyright that may otherwise subsist in such works, and to publish such images. Panorama freedom statutes and/or case law limit the right of the copyright owner to take action for breach of copyright against the creators and distributors of such images. It is an exception to the normal rule that the copyright owner has the exclusive right to authorize the creation and distribution of derivative works. The phrase is derived from the German term Panoramafreiheit ("panorama freedom").

2012 06 01 FAREWELL KODAK GALLERY-WE WILL MISS YOU

WILL BE MISSING KODAK GALLERY WHEN THE SITE CLOSES DOWN......AND ALL ITS PHOTOS MOVING TO SHUTTERFLY.COM
SIGNING ONTO THEIR SIGHT, AND SPOTTED THIS:

Dear valued Kodak Gallery member:
I have some very important news regarding your Kodak Gallery account and images. You may have heard that we recently entered into a process to sell Kodak Gallery as part of Kodak's broader restructuring efforts. I am writing today to let you know that we have closed on a buyer: a public company called Shutterfly.
Although I am sad to announce that our Kodak-branded service will be closing on July 2 as a result of this sale, I am very pleased to announce that we have found a strong partner in Shutterfly. They offer a market leading user experience that mirrors ours in many ways, and many of the services and products that you enjoy today on Kodak Gallery can also be found at Shutterfly.com. Their services include free, unlimited storage and a 100 percent customer satisfaction guarantee. Working together, we will securely transfer your account photos to them free of charge. We are absolutely committed to making this transition as smooth and easy as possible.
For well over a decade, Kodak Gallery has operated with a mission to make it easier for people around the world to celebrate their Kodak moments through photo-sharing, photo-product creation, and more recently, innovative new mobile photo experiences. Now, it is our top priority to ensure that your images and confidential information are kept private and secure as they move from our site to Shutterfly. And of course, although Kodak Gallery is transitioning, the Kodak brand you love and trust remains. Please visit Kodak.com for more information about our other great products and services that are still available to help you with your personal imaging needs.
In the page below you will find more information such as:
  • More information about Shutterfly
  • Detailed next steps, including how to "opt-out" if you do not want your account and images to migrate over to Shutterfly (you will have until May 28 to opt-out)
  • FAQs about your photos and projects: Your Kodak Gallery projects (photo books, calendars, etc.) will not be migrated so please complete any projects and place any orders before noon, PST on July 2, 2012

  • What this means for you

In the transition of your photos from Kodak Gallery to Shutterfly, all of your personal photos will be moved to the Shutterfly website. Unfortunately, none of your projects (Photo Books, Calendars, etc.) or Group Albums will be moved—you will need to complete and purchase any projects (also consider re-purchasing previous projects as backup) before noon, PST on July 2, 2012. We thank you for your patience as we move your photos, and we will ensure that every single image is transitioned safely and securely.
Even though Kodak Gallery is closing, Kodak, the brand you love and trust endures. You may visit Kodak.com for information on their imaging products and services.
And finally, please make sure you update your email address with Kodakgallery.com so we can keep you updated throughout this process.

    What happens next?

    May

Since your photos and projects will only be available for a limited time, please begin wrapping up any unfinished projects as well as re-purchasing any previous projects that you want to keep for backup. Please remember, your photos and projects will be available at Kodakgallery.com until noon, PST on July 2, 2012, and after that you will no longer be able to access anything on Kodakgallery.com.

    June

Shutterfly will email you with simple instructions for choosing how you want your Kodak Gallery account linked to Shutterfly.

    July

Five billion photos will be moved from Kodak Gallery to Shutterfly. Shutterfly will email you about the status of your photos throughout the process to keep you updated. It will be secure and smooth but will take some time, and your patience is appreciated.
Shutterfly is a leading online photo services and social expression company that offers quality products and services to help you create photo books, cards, personal websites and more. They offer free, unlimited, full-resolution picture storage and will never delete your photos. You can also enjoy the convenience of picking up your prints at Target, CVS and Walgreens.
We will constantly be updating this page so please check back here if you have any questions.
Finally, on behalf of all of the employees at Kodak Gallery, I would like to express our most sincere thanks for having been given the opportunity to be a part of your Kodak Moments and to serve you all these years. Although businesses shift and change—memories last forever. Thanks again.

PRESS RELEASE
NEW: LEICA V-LUX 3
The versatile all-in-one camera for creative stills and video
Solms, Germany (December 8, 2011) – Leica Camera AG presents the Leica V-Lux 3, a new compact digital camera with an extensive range of features. The camera is extremely versatile, making it ideal for almost all photographic situations. For photographers shooting landscapes, architecture, sport, travel, portraits or wildlife, the V-Lux 3 incorporates an enormously flexible lens. The Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 4.5 – 108 mm f/2.8 – 5.2 ASPH. 24-fold super-telephoto zoom lens covers a wide range of focal lengths equivalent to 25–600 mm in 35 mm format. The newly developed 12.1-megapixel CMOS image sensor guarantees exceptional image quality for all applications. A truly universal solution for creative photographers looking for an all-in-one camera, the V-Lux 3 also features extensive broad range of video options and offers video quality comparable to premium-range camcorders.
“The Leica V-Lux 3 combines exceptional performance with the handy size of a compact camera. It offers a vast range of focal lengths and covers almost all photographic situations that usually require the use of a camera system. The V-Lux 3 is therefore an attractive alternative to entry-level DSLR cameras with interchangeable lenses,” says Peter Kruschewski, Product Manager for Digital Compact Cameras at Leica Camera AG.
The Leica V-Lux 3 features a very impressive range of video functions, capturing full-HD video in AVCHD format with 1920 × 1080 pixels and 60 full frames per second. This 1080p60 video format not only guarantees the perfect rendition of fast movement in outstanding detail but is also ideal for conversion to alternative resolutions and refresh rates. The entire 24-fold zoom range is available during video recording while an integrated stereo microphone with an electronic wind noise filter guarantees a crystal-clear soundtrack.
One of the fastest consecutive shooting cameras in its class, the V-Lux 3 incorporates a high-speed burst-shooting capability: bursts of 12 frames per second at full resolution, or 60 frames per second at a resolution of 3.5 MP.
A reliable aid to photographers in the precise composition and assessment of images, the 3″ LCD display with 460,000 pixel resolution delivers an extremely bright and clear view. The monitor screen of the V-Lux 3 can be twisted and turned in almost any direction, opening up entirely new horizons for image composition from even the most unusual angles. When shooting stills or video from above their head or down close to the ground, photographers using the V-Lux 3 always remain in full control.
The design of the Leica V-Lux 3 is characterized by a compact form and extremely simple handling. The camera’s integrated handgrip keeps it steady and its light weight allows for one-handed shooting. All controls are clearly laid out and simple to use. For instance, video recording can be started quickly and easily at the touch of a button on the top deck of the camera.
Supporting Leica Camera’s commitment to an uncompromised customer experience, the Leica V-Lux 3 comes complete with a two-year warranty. The camera also is supplied with a comprehensive software package, including Adobe Photoshop Elements and Adobe Premiere Elements. The image-processing software Adobe Photoshop Elements offers users options for viewing, organization and administration in addition to a wide range of image-processing solutions. Adobe® Premiere Elements is especially designed for video processing and offers optimum features for processing videos recorded by the V-Lux 3 in AVCHD format, enabling the creation of professional audio and video effects. Both programs are available as free downloads from the Leica Camera website after registration of the camera.
The Leica V-Lux 3 will be available from Leica Camera dealers beginning January 2012.
