Reunited with the Original Chinatown Ice Cream Factory

65 Bayard St #63, New York, NY 10013, USA
Came back to The Original Chinatown Ice Cream Factory. Dang the long name. I am always intrigued with places that has unique flavors on the menu. Every single time I am in NYC, there are a few "must return" places and this is one of them. There is only one location, and it is mixed in on one of the streets with all the family restaurants and stores.

There are 2 flavors that I always crave. One is the black sesame and the other is the ginger. I have never found these flavors replicated elsewhere. They also say that they make their own ice cream. This time, I went for the ginger again. I was a little disappointed because it was a little weak. It didn't have the strong signature ginger flavor that I remembered. This time, it was lacking. I still enjoyed the chunks of sweet ginger.

The one on the left is ginger, and aunt got mango on the right. The staff during that day were pretty vibrant too. The girl in pink was trying to make funny faces as I was taking a picture.

Just realized the elaborate menu on the wall. I always walk in and run through the available flavors in the glass case. It's easier just reading off the wall!

I must remember to  try the other unique flavors next time. Currently, the Lychee Lavender and the Cherry Pistachio stands out. Hopefully, it is a flavor that will be there when I go back again!

Price hiking up to $4.95 a scoop.
How much will it be when I get around to NYC again?

MY FIRST VISIT TO FOXTAIL COFFEE

FOXTAIL COFFEE
1282 N Orange Ave, Winter Park, FL 32789

MY RATING: 2.5 OF 5 STARS

EXPLORED ANOTHER COFFEE SHOP AND WAS CRAVING FOR A GREEN TEA AS SOON AS I SPOTTED IT ON THE MENU. 12 OZ. MATCHA GREEN TEA = $3.75
I NEED TO COME BACK AND TRY THEIR COFFEE. I WENT WITH E.G. AND SHE HAD A REGULAR COFFEE. MY MATCHA GREEN TEA WAS MEDIOCRE FOR ME.

SHOULD HAVE ORDERED THIS INSTEAD....
COLD BREW FLIGHT OF 3 FOR $9.00
OVERALL IT IS A COOL PLACE TO CHILL-AX, HAVE A MEETING OR JUST BE IN YOUR OWN SOLO GROOVE. IT IS NOT A HUGE PLACE. BUT, I GUESS A TYPICAL SIZE COFFEE PLACE. YOU WALK IN AND THE CENTER IS LINED WITH A CART AND MINI TABLE FULL OF CUTE MERCHANDISE. IT IS A GOOD WAY TO DIRECT TRAFFIC IN A "U" SHAPE, AS IT LEADS YOU UP TO THE COUNTER WHERE YOU CAN ORDER YOUR DRINK AND DIRECTLY WALK OUT IF YOU ARE JUST PICKING IT UP TO GO.

TOWARDS THE BACK ON THE LEFT IS A BAR/STOOL AREA THAT HUGS THE WALL, LEADING TO THE RESTROOM.
ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THIS IS A COOL ROOM WHERE I READ SOMEWHERE THAT THEY HOLD CLASSES TO SHOW HOW COFFEE IS BREWED WITH THIS FUNKY-ANCIENT LOOKING COFFEE ROASTER.

THE DECOR GIVES OFF A MODERN FEEL. ALL THE FIXTURES AND FURNITURE COMPLIMENTS THE OVERALL RUSTIC TEXTURE THAT LEADS YOU ALL THE WAY TO THE BACK OF THE ROOM.

I REALLY WISH ORLANDO WOULD HAVE MORE OF THESE THEMED TYPE OF COFFEE PLACES TO LOUNGE IN. IT WOULD DEFINITELY GIVE ME AN EXCUSE TO MEET UP WITH MY FRIENDS OR EVEN GET SOME WORK DONE ON MY OWN.
I NEED TO COME BACK AND SHARE THE COLD BREW FLIGHT WITH SOMEONE.
HOPEFULLY, IT WOULD STILL BE ON THE MENU.

2017 FEB 23 ACHILLES ART CAFE ORLANDO

ARCHILLES ART CAFE
2869 Wilshire Dr #103, Orlando, FL 32835

MY RATING: 3 OF 5 STARS

WHERE WAS THIS AND WHY DIDN'T I FIND THIS EARLIER!
I'M NOT A COFFEE EXTRAORDINAIRE AND WASN'T INTO THE THEMED CAFE SCENE THAT IS QUITE POPULAR IN KOREA WHILE I WAS THERE. HOWEVER, MISSING IT NOW THAT IT IS CONSIDER AS A RARE KIND OF ESTABLISHMENT HERE.

ACCORDING TO ACHILLE'S WEBSITE, IT IS SAID THAT THEY OPENED AUGUST OF 2008. SO, IT'S BEEN IN BUSINESS AT THIS LOCATION FOR A WHILE. BUT, IT IS ALSO PRETTY HIDDEN IN THE METRO WEST AREA. I ALMOST CONTINUED DRIVING WHEN I ONLY SPOTTED "COFFEE SHOP" AND NOT IT'S FULL NAME.

THE VIBE OF THIS PLACE IS PRETTY WARM. THE STAFF ARE PRETTY FRIENDLY.
THE LITTLE AREAS SECTIONED BY A SET OF COFFEE TABLE AND COUCH GIVES AN INVITING FEEL TO GROUPS OR INDIVIDUALS TO LOUNGE AROUND.

I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT CAME CLOSE TO LOOKING LIKE THE ONE IN THE FRIEND'S EPISODE. THIS WILL HAVE TO DO FOR NOW.
I WAS INTRIGUED WITH THE FLAVORS OF THE LATTES AND ENDED UP GETTING THE LATTE WITH BUTTERBEER FLAVOR. IT WAS DELICIOUS!
THE PRICE SEEM TO BE IN THE PANERA RANGE. $8 FOR THE MOZZARELLA, PROVOLONE, SWISS CHEESE ON SOURDOUGH, AND TOMATO SOUP.

$8 FOR THE BEEF EMPANADA WITH SOUR CREAM, GUACAMOLE, AND TOMATO SALSA. THE GUAC AND SALSA TASTED FRESH!

PEACEFUL DURING CLOSING TIME!

I WOULD DEFINITELY BE BACK SOON, BUT NOT TOO SOON. I'M STILL ON THE HUNT TO FIND MORE CAFES NEAR ME.

AFTER A YEAR IN KOREA - WEEK 1 RETURN

MY 1ST WEEK BACK IN A NUTSHELL
COMING BACK FROM TEACHING AND LIVING IN KOREA FOR A YEAR HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT EAT, SLEEP, YOUTUBE BINGING AND CATCHING UP WITH SOME K PEEPS AND SOME K BRATZ VIA KAKAO. SLOWLY CATCHING UP WITH MY HOMIES HERE VIA REAL TIME.

MISSED A FEW EVENTS WITH MY CAR NOT WORKING AND BODY STILL IN KOREAN TIME ZONE.

I HAVE LONGED FOR THESE DAYS TO COME EVER SINCE THE LACK OF SLEEP WHILE PLANNING AND TRAVELING DURING MY LAST 2 WEEKS AFTER MY TEACHING CONTRACT WAS OVER.

AT LAST, THIS IS A TIME THAT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR: A TIME OF TRANQUILITY ALONG WITH A HUGE TASK LIST TO TACKLE. HOWEVER, UNLIKE THE LIST I HAD DURING MY LAST MONTH IN KOREA, THIS LIST DOESN'T REALLY HAVE A DEADLINE.

BODY MODE STILL IN KOREA TIME:
MY HOURS SINCE I'VE GOTTEN BACK HAS BEEN:

5:00AM EASTERN STANDARD TIME OF COURSE, EYES WIDE OPEN. CATCHING UP ON YOUTUBE AND SOCIAL MEDIA OR ANYTHING THAT INVOLVES THE INTERNET VIA CELL PHONE. THIS ALSO INCLUDES CATCHING UP WITH MY #KPEEPS VIA KAKAO, AKA THE KOREAN INSTANT MESSAGING SYSTEM.

6:00AM GET UP
SCARFING LEFT OVERS OR WHATEVER MUNCHIES I COULD CONJURE UP IN THE FRIDGE OR PANTRY.

#BEINGACOUCHPOTATO CATCHING UP WITH MY HONG KONG TELEVISION SERIES (SPECIFICALLY TVB) WHILE EATING.

9:00AM INTERNET STUFF

1:00PM GOING OUT SOMEWHERE. ERRAND RUNS

4:00PM CHOW DOWN, START TO GET SLEEPY

4:30PM AND ON, SLEEPY TIME.

I NEVER DID BREAKFAST.....UNTIL NOW:
CHANGING IT UP, I STARTED TO EAT BREAKFAST SINCE I'VE GOTTEN BACK TO THE STATES. EATING BREAKFAST IS A RARE THING FOR ME. BUT SINCE MY SLEEPING HOURS ARE ALL JACKED UP, I'VE STARTED TO GAIN AN APPETITE AFTER WAKING UP.
YEP BREAKFAST WITH TURKEY MEATBALLS

CATCHING UP ON MY CEREALS:
ALTHOUGH I’VE NEVER BEEN MUCH OF A CEREAL PERSON, NOR A BREAKFAST PERSON, THIS IS WHAT IS CURRENTLY AT MY CRIB. HENCE, TRYING TO MIX IT UP A LITTLE BY COMBINING MY CEREALS WITH A BANANA. #STAYINGHEALTHY
IN KOREA, THEY TREAT CEREAL MORE LIKE A SNACK. IT IS ALSO HELLA-EXPENSIVE AND THE OPTIONS ARE LIMITED.
I THINK I SPOTTED THE AVERAGE BOX OF CEREAL WERE AROUND $6 AND UP. I ONLY GOT IT OVER THERE WHEN THERE WAS A SALE. I ALSO THINK THAT THEY STARTED MARKETING MILK AND CEREAL TO PARENTS. IN KOREA, I MAINLY GOT THE KOREAN VERSION OF FROSTED FLAKES AND THEIR CHOCOLATE VERSION OF CHEERIOS.

EVENTS: HELLO KITTY AND ART AND CRAFT SHOW
WITH MY FIRST WEEK BACK IN THE STATESI WENT TO SOME RARE EVENTS THAT WERE GOING ON THIS WEEK.

HELLO KITTY TRUCK WAS IN TOWN FROM CALIFORNIA. IT WAS AT THE FLORIDA MALL AND WAS ONLY GOING TO BE THERE UNTIL 8PM. I MADE IT THERE A LITTLE BIT BEFORE THEIR CLOSING TIME. THEY SAID THAT
THEY WERE FROM CALIFORNIA AND THAT THEIR NEXT STOP WAS GOING TO BE TEXAS.

THINGS WERE MEGA EXPENSIVE OF COURSE. I GOT THE $13 MUG THAT CAME WITH A STICKER AND PIN! YAY!

FIESTA IN THE PARK @LAKE EOLA
I ALSO DROPPED BY CARR’S ART EVENT AT THE ORLANDO’S FIESTA IN THE PARK ART SHOW THAT WAS HELD AT LAKE EOLA.

LAKE EOLA, ORLANDO

HE HAD A KILLER SPOT AND THE LAKE SERVED A GREAT SILHOUETTE BACKDROP FOR HIS BOOTH.

QUICK RUNS FOR MY CRAVINGS: HUBBLY BUBBLY, KFC, TACO BELL
ON ONE OF MY DAYS DURING MY ERRAND RUNS, I ALSO MADE A QUICK STOP TO HUBBLY BUBBLY’S.  I WENT A YEAR WITHOUT HUMMUS AND FALAFEL. ALTHOUGH, THEY SOLD FALAFEL IN ITAEWON, I WASN’T GOING TO PAY AN ARM AND A LEG FOR SOMETHING THAT I COULD FIND AT HOME.
@ EDGEWATER / ORLANDO
Address3405 Edgewater Dr, Orlando, FL 32804

I ORDERED THE CHICKEN PITA AND AN ORDER OF FALAFEL.
DURING MY FIRST WEEK BEING BACK IN THE STATES, I ALSO HAD TO SATISFY MY CRAVINGS. THIS INCLUDED THE MASH POTATOES THAT WERE NOWHERE TO BE FOUND IN KOREA. I WAS ALSO TOO LAZY TO MAKE THEM MYSELF FROM SCRATCH WITH THE LACK OF “ME” TIME.

ALTHOUGH THERE WERE PLENTY OF TACO BELLS IN SEOUL, MY CRAVINGS INCLUDED TACOS. AND I DEFINITELY NEEDED SOMETHING CHEAP. BUT,
5 TACOS AND 2 ROLLS OF ROLLED CHICKEN TACOS LEAD TO A $10 BILL! #THINGSADDUP

WEIGHT LOST FROM BEING ABROAD FOR A YEAR.
I'M ABLE TO FIT INTO LOTS OF MY CLOTHES FROM THE PAST! BEING WITHOUT A CAR AND HAVING TO RELY ON TRANSPORTATION HAS MADE ME WALK MY BUTT OFF FOR THE YEAR IN ADDITION TO SOME OF THE MOUNTAIN CLIMBING.
MY INCREASED APPETITE HAS MADE MY MOM WHIPPING OUT STUFF IN THE KITCHEN.

DINNER FROM MY MADRE:
1ST MEAL FROM MI MADRE AND A SIDE SCOOP OF KFC’S MASH POTATOES:

2ND MEAL FROM MI MADRE. SHE NOTED THAT THIS WAS MORE OF A WELCOME BACK DINNER. OH KAY!  I DO HOWEVER, MISS THE SWEET SOY SAUCE THAT SHE MAKES.

3RD DINNER FROM MADRE = HALLOWEEN DINNER:

DINNER ON 4TH DAY BACK IN USA:

THAT'S MY 1ST WEEK BACK IN A NUTSHELL!

PROJECT KOREA: WEEK 19 EXPLORING BUPYEONG INCHEON

02/27/16 SATURDAY
FOR THE SATURDAY IN FEBRUARY, I DECIDED TO GO TO BUPYEONG. AFTER WATCHING CHARLY CHEER'S YOUTUBE BLOG, I MARKED BUPYEOUNG TO BE THE PLACE TO VISIT ON THIS DAY. I HAVE ABOUT A 15 MINUTE WALK FROM MY BULDANG-DONG APARTMENT TO THE EXPRESS BUS STATION, ACROSS THE STREET FROM THE KTX STATION. THIS BUS GOES STRAIGHT TO THE EXPRESS BUS TERMINAL IN SEOUL (GANGNAM AREA).

BUS TICKET
I'VE DECIDED TO TAKE THE 10:25 AM BUS TIME. I WOULD ARRIVE IN SEOUL AROUND 11:55 AM AND THEN HAVE TO TAKE THE SUBWAY TO MY DESTINATION. IN THE PAST, I'VE TRIED TO BOOK EARLIER BUS TIMES, BUT IT WAS JUST A PAIN TO GET UP EARLY.

ALTHOUGH ARRIVING IN SEOUL AROUND NOON WOULD MEAN THAT I HAVE LESS TIME TO EXPLORE, IT BEATS HAVING TO RUSH IN THE MORNING. THERE WERE PLENTY OF TIMES WHERE I HAVE MISSED MY BUS TIMES BECAUSE I HAD SET IT UP WAY TOO EARLY. AND THESE BUSES DON'T PLAY WHEN IT WANTS TO BE ON TIME. THEY ALWAYS SEEM TO ARRIVE ON TIME WHEN I'M LATE AND ARRIVE LATE WHEN I'M ON TIME. I'VE MISSED A COUPLE OF THESE AND IT COST ME 6,200 WON WHICH IS EQUIVALENT TO AROUND $5-$6 USD.

THE BUS TICKET GOING TO SEOUL, I CAN PURCHASE AT THE 7-11 CONVENIENT STORE THAT IS ABOUT A BLOCK AWAY FROM THIS BUS STOP. FOUND OUT THAT YOU CAN REQUEST FOR A PARTIAL REFUND OF 80% BUT IT HAS TO BE WITHIN 3 DAYS OF THE PURCHASED DATE. THIS CONVENIENT STORE IS PRETTY WEIRD BECAUSE IT DOESN'T OPEN UNTIL 10AM. SO, IF I HAD TO TURN AROUND AND REQUEST FOR A REFUND ON AN EARLY DAY, I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR IT TO BE OPENED, OR GO BACK ANOTHER DAY. AREN'T CONVENIENT STORES USUALLY 24 HOURS?

IT TAKES ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF TO GET FROM CHEONAN TO SEOUL VIA THIS EXPRESS BUS. I USUALLY UTILIZE THIS TIME TO CATCH UP ON MY SLEEP.

IMAGE BELOW WAS A LINE IN THE SUBWAY THAT I HAD TO TRANSFER IN ORDER TO GET TO BUPYEONG. BUPYEONG, INCHEON IS AN OLDER AREA.

ARRIVING AT THE BUPYEOUNG STATION WHERE I HAD TO GET OUT MY TMONEY (TRANSPORTATION CARD) TO SWIPE TO GET THROUGH.

AFTER SWIPING MY TMONEY CARD, I WALKED TO MY LEFT AND FOUND A HUGE LOTTE MART. HEADED DOWNSTAIRS AND FOUND THE FOOD STALLS GALORE!

CHECK OUT HOW AVOCADO IS SPELLED. #SPELLCHECK
IN KOREA, THEY DO NOT HAVE "V" IN THEIR PHONETICS, HENCE LEADING TO A DIFFERENT SPELLING.

SO, AVOCADO & BANANA SMOOTHIE IT IS. IT WAS ACTUALLY REALLY GOOD. ONLY COST $2-$3. THE CUP WAS PRETTY SMALL, BUT ENOUGH TO LAST ME UNTIL LATE AFTERNOON.

THEN, I FOUND IT! IN COMPARISON TO THE GANGNAM UNDERGROUND SHOPPING CENTER, IT SEEMED SMALLER. DID I MISS A FEW PLACES? THIS WAS AROUND 3 P.M.

I KNOW THAT THERE WAS A CENTER PART, AND THEN THERE ARE DIFFERENT SECTIONS TO GO OFF FROM THE CENTER, SORT OF LIKE A SUN AS THE CENTER, AND THE BEAMS ARE EXTENDED OUT AS THE SHOPPING AREAS. WHEN YOU REACH THE END OF THE BEAM, IT LOOPS YOU BACK TO THE CENTER WITH THIS STATUE SHOWN BELOW.

I'VE SEEN THE MANNEQUINS ON OTHER BLOGS FROM YEARS BACK, AND YES, IT IS 2016 AND THESE GUYS ARE STILL HERE, AS IF THEY ARE DISPLAYING A KPOP IDOL GROUP IN THE "UNDERGROUND" WORLD. #LOL

DECIDED TO EMERGE FROM THE UNDERGROUND SCENE AND FOUND THE BUPEOUNG SHOPPING MALL THAT SITS ON TOP OF THIS UNDERGROUND SHOPPING WORLD.

TO THE LEFT OF THE MALL WAS THIS INSTALLATION, NOT REALLY FITTING WITH IT'S BACKDROP. I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT AN INSTALLATION SUCH AS THIS ONE WOULD BE IN AN EVEN MORE OPEN AREA, OR PERHAPS IN A MUSEUM. THE CIRCLE DESIGN ON THE GROUND SEEMS FITTING, BUT THAT IS ABOUT IT.

THE TIME WAS AROUND 4:45 PM. I WAS TRYING TO FIND SOMETHING INTERESTING, WALKING AWAY FROM THE MALL WITH NEW DISCOVERIES. ACROSS THE STREET WERE SOME SKATEBOARDERS USING THIS AREA AS THEIR PLAYGROUND.

IT WAS ALMOST 5 P.M. I NEEDED TO LOOK FOR A BITE. THE ONLY THING I HAD WAS THAT LOVELY SMOOTHIE. I WAS POKING AROUND LOOKING FOR SOMETHING THAT EITHER HAD A PICTURE OR SOMETHING WHERE I CAN CHOOSE WITHOUT THE LANGUAGE BARRIER AS AN ISSUE. SO AFTER SOME WANDERING, I DECIDED TO GO BACK IN THE MALL WHERE I SPOTTED THE FOOD STALLS. I RECALLED SEEING VISUALS THAT WOULD HELP WITH MY SELECTION.

NEVER AGAIN WITH #PHONHO. NOW LOOKING AT MY IMAGES, IT ACTUALLY READS
PHO NO! SO, NO MORE PHO NHO HERE FOR ME.
IN COMPARISON TO THE PICTURE ON THEIR MENU, I WAS EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE ACTUAL PLATE. I ORDERED THE 2ND DISH ON THE 1ST COLUMN. I WAS EXPECTING A REALLY THIN SLICE OF PORK. INSTEAD, I WAS HANDED A PLATE WITH THE THINNEST MEAT ON THE BONES. I WAS BASICALLY SUCKING ON BONES AND CLUELESS AS TO WHICH PARTS.

THE RICE AND SOUP WERE GOOD, BUT THAT WAS ABOUT IT. CILANTRO IS SUCH A SCARCE ITEM IN MY GROCERY STORES, THAT I MADE SURE I FINISHED THE CILANTRO WITH MY RICE.

THEY EVEN HAD A MESSY GROCERY SECTION WITHIN ARM'S REACH OF MY TABLE.

DONE WITH EATING. HEADED BACK OUT. NO CLUE WHERE I AM GOING BUT I'M JUST GOING.

AND YEP, I SEE THIS OFTEN, WHERE PEEPS JUST PARK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. I WOULD THINK TO UNLOAD, BUT, I DON'T SEE ANY PEEPS NOR RELEVANT INDICATION.

WALKED STRAIGHT SOME MORE, THEN DECIDED TO CROSS THE STREET IN HOPES TO FIND THE BUPYEOUNG NIGHT MARKET BUT HAD NO LUCK. BUT CAME ACROSS A SCHOOL INSTEAD... THIS IS BUWAN MIDDLE SCHOOL.
HMM, WONDERING WHO THE LUCKY ENGLISH TEACHERS ARE WITH GREAT HOURS!

IT WAS GETTING LATE AND I WAS PRETTY MUCH RUNNING AROUND IN CIRCLES WITH MY GOOGLE MAP GPS TRYING TO FIND THIS NIGHT MARKET. EVEN STARTED ASKING PEOPLE AROUND AND HAD NO LUCK.

SPOTTED THIS FOOD TRUCK, SELLING WHOLE CHICKENS! I THOUGHT OF GETTING IT, BUT THE THOUGHTS OF DISPOSING THE BONES WAS TOO MUCH OF A HASSLE. HENCE, IT WAS A NO GO.

MADE IT TO THE EXPRESS BUS TERMINAL IN GANGNAM.
BOUGHT MY TICKET AND THE NEXT OPENING THEY HAD WAS THE 10:20PM BUS.
NIGHT BUSES ARE SLIGHTLY MORE IN COST, ONLY ABOUT 60 CENTS MORE.
NEARBY WAS A LOTTERIA FAST FOOD AND WENT AND GOT A CHEESEBURGER AND PASSION FRUIT JUICE. THE PASSION FRUIT JUICE WAS INTERESTING. IT HAD LITTLE CRUNCHY SEEDS IN THERE.

TIME TO CALL IT A NIGHT!
